COMICS WORKSHOP - DRAWING THE INSIDE OUT WITH GEORGIA WEBBER (+D U S T!)
Do you want to make comics, and need a place to start? In this workshop, autobio comics creator Georgia Webber, author of Dumb: Living Without a Voice (Fantographics 2018) will guide you through the basics of comics-making skills, and how to apply them in creating stories from your own life experience. Suggested donation $10.
Georgia Webber is a comics artist, writer, and editor. Georgia is best known for her graphic memoir, Dumb: Living Without a Voice (Fantagraphics 2018), the chronicle of her severe vocal injury and sustained vocal condition, which makes using her voice painful. This experience led her to work as a Cranial Sacral Therapist, a meditation facilitator, and as an improvising musician, blending elements of healthcare, body awareness, and creative expression within constraints. She has extended her love of the voice into the community with a project called MAW Vocal Arts, a live event series in Toronto. Georgia is currently collaborating with dancer, athlete, and artist Vivian Chong to create Vivian's graphic memoir about losing her sight: Dancing After TEN (Fantagraphics 2020).
The workshop will be followed by a performance by D U S T (The Quietest Big Band in the Known World). D U S T is a card-carrying collective of musicians committed to making as little sound as possible. It is free improvisation at a very low decible level. Like nothing you've ever heard (or not heard!)
The workshop begins at 6, D U S T starts at 8.
