Greg Sazima, author of Practical Mindfulness will sign books at Mac's Backs (outside) on Saturday, July 31st from 1-2 p.m.
Practical Mindfulness teaches readers that our real home, a place we can always return to, no matter the circumstances, is actually inside of ourselves. Practical Mindfulness’ clear training helps readers respond and adapt to the inevitable opportunities and stresses of contemporary life. Beginning meditation is often made more complicated than it needs to be. Practical Mindfulness simplifies it and eases the way to getting a solid practice going.
"Debut author Sazima’s work as a practicing psychiatrist in San Jose, California, often brought him into contact with people who wanted to be “collaborators in their treatment.” He and his colleagues noticed that several patients seemed stuck in a cycle of poor health. However, after the author established a class on the basics of breath control and meditation, some patients quickly showed improvement. Sazima goes on to recommend these same methods to his readers, offering a series of painless, jargon-free introductions to their basic tenets." KIrkus Reviews
"Practical Mindfulness is likely to become a treasure for many. Dr. Greg Sazima infuses his extensive training and knowledge of the mind and body and creates a "no-nonsense" guide to help others get their minds and bodies right. What's unique about Sazima's approach is not just his abiding insistence that meditation unlocks the key to happiness, tranquility, centeredness, even gratitude. Others have done this to be sure, but Sazima's humor, much of it directed himself and his training, adds an air of authenticity and a sense that he, like the rest of us, is just trying to figure it out. That said, this is not just a book but a tool for figuring things out. " ―Steve Barrett - Educator, Columbus, OH; Superintendent, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools
Dr. Greg Sazima is a board-certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist, an educator of doctors-in-training, a writer, and a long-time meditator and meditation teacher. He is also a survivor of a rare bone cancer who’s used the powerful practice of meditation to navigate his own medical crisis. Now, he is on a “pay it forward” mission to help us gain a practical understanding and basic mastery of mindful awareness. In Practical Mindfulness, he leverages lessons from his experience in a personal, informal style to show why and how meditation works.
