SIDEWALK SALE & SAUL ISLER
The Coventry Village Sidewalk Sale is Saturday, June 24th from 12-5. All the merchants will have tables out and this year's fair will also have carnival games and video games throughout the district and on the street corners. One of our favorite bands, School of Rock will play from 1-3 p.m.
Author and former Clevelander Saul Isler will be signing Blue Shoes, a new collection of short stories at Mac's from 12-1 p.m.
A Heights High grad (’52), Saul was a familiar figure on the Coventry strip, designing the poster for a Coventry Street Fair, and chairing the inauguration of the Centrum Theater as a fundraiser for the Heights Youth Center, on whose board he served for many years. He has written four novels including his “Missing” trilogy, Babe Ruth Is Missing; Shakespeare Is Missing and the as yet unfinished Jesus Is Missing, and a YA novel, The Cave at Devils Elbow, plus two books of short stories,The Man in the Parking Lot and The Blue Shoes and a humorous treatise on the solving of Acrostic puzzles, The Majestic Acrostic.
Isler, while living in Cleveland, freelanced a column, The Woodbutcher, for the Plain Dealer, and wrote several cover stories about Cleveland’s restaurant scene for the PD Sunday Magazine. He now lives and writes in Santa Monica, California, overseen by his black cat, Andy, roughly his own age in cat years.
