TIM JOYCE & CHARLENE FIX
Poets Tim Joyce and Charlene Fix will read at Mac's on Wednesday, September 12th at 7 p.m. followed by an open mic.
Tim Joyce was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Throughout his hardscrabble childhood he was taken with cityscapes, steel mills, the trees of Northeastern Ohio, as well as the people he encountered—all of which he would sketch, draw, and paint. Combining music, poetry, and painting with journalism and teaching, he has found constant inspiration and a desire to express how the passage of time is imprinted on both lives and scenes. He has lived in Dublin, Los Angeles, and Berlin; presently he lives, teaches and makes his art in Cleveland. Joyce has had solo art shows at Waterloo Arts, Doubting Thomas in Tremont and Bay Arts. He has published four volumes of poetry and his new disc The Likes of Us will be available at the reading.
Charlene Fix has published several books and chapbooks including Taking A Walk in My Animal Hat, just published by Bottom Dog Press, Frankenstein's Flowers, Flowering Bruno, Mischief and Charlene Fix: Greatest Hits. Charlene Fix taught high school English for ten years and was a professor of English at Columbus College of Art and Design for more than thirty. She has received Ohio and Greater Columbus arts council grants, and her poems have appeared in various literary magazines. Charlene workshops with The House of Toast poets, co-coordinates Hospital Poets at OSU, and is an activist for Middle East peace.
