UNDOCUMENTED: POETS LAUREATE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

Area poets laureate included in the anthology Undocumented: Great Lakes Poets Laureate on Social Justice (edited by Ron Riekki and Andrea Scarpino) will read at Mac's on Wednesday, April 24th at 7 p.m.

Cleveland Heights laureates Gail Bellamy, Meredith Holmes, Christine Howey and Mary Weems and Lucas County (Toledo area) laureates Joel Lipman and Jim Ferris will represent the anthology.

"This anthology of poems, nearly all of them new and previously unpublished, and dealing with issues of social justice suggests that, as Ezra Pound said about literature---that it is "news that stays news"--is true. The Great Lakes region ia a large, rich and varied place that is written into place by many of its laureates, but the myriad subjects broached by these honored poets----what they say about and from this particlar place is relevant to citizens everywhere. Issues of ecology, race, violence, family, inequity, work, power , usurpation, language, education, religion animal rights, gender dyamics and more illuminate each other with the turn of every page." (from the foreword by Lisa Russ Spaar)
