Workshop Writers Reception
A writing workshop has been meeting at Mac's Backs for several years. They came together in response to a member's flyer, bonded, and have been working together twice a month ever since.
Now three of those members Chris Garson, Gabrielle Jarrett and Ben Langhinrichs have published books and Mac's will host an informal booksigning and reception for them on Friday, September 21st at 5 p.m.
Chris Garson devoured fantasy and science fiction classics and became an avid gamer on his way to getting degrees in psychology and sociology with a minor in King Arthur. His novel Perk Noir features Mason Ezekiel Barnes, former NFL tackle turned successful author of the naughty ninja adventure series Mia Killjoy. Mason is obsessed with winning a Pulitzer and is thwarted by his fellow author and nemesis Conrad Bancroft. Mason spends his days writing at a local cafe, Perk Noir, the one-of-a-kind jazz coffee shop where he and Bancroft ply their craft.
Gabrielle Jarrett is a practicing psychotherapist in Cleveland Heights and Chardon. Her lifelong interest in human nature, the human mind, and the deceptive balance of light and dark created her debut novel, Blood Draw. Jemma, on sabbatical from an English professorship to be a collator of a University led adoption study, struggles with the decision to find the daughter she adopted out as a sixteen-year-old or to let go of the idea forever. Derek, an adoptee, is restless and frustrated, unable to commit to a career, relationship, or his closeted sexual identity. Peter, an IT consultant before joining the study as a collator, is in line to lead an ancient cult called Maharba and longs to bring Derek into the fold. The connections formed between these three create more questions than answers.
When he isn't reading or writing fantastical adventures for children, Ben Langhinrichs develops software for Genii Software, the slightly magical company he owns.He is the author of Danger Tastes Dreadful: A Middle Grade Fantasy. When Bernie tastes danger in the air, he knows his best friend, Tish, will help solve the mystery. But when the danger turns out to be giants who stomp into town and grab their parents, the two young trolls must follow and try to rescue their loved ones. Thus begins a harrowing journey across the wasteland to the mountains where giants live. Inside Mount Dreadful's smoky caverns, Bernie and Tish discover the giants have enemies of their own who may prove even more dangerous. Bernie and Tish must figure out who is friend and who is foe, rescue their captured parents and escape the mountain, all without getting squashed or roasted or eaten alive.
